Olight i3E EOS Keychain Flashlight Review

The OLIGHT i3E EOS Keychain Flashlight is tiny—like, disappears-in-your-pocket tiny. But does something this small actually put out enough light to be useful for travel? We’ve been testing it to find out. Let’s dive in!

The Rundown

The OLIGHT i3E EOS is made from aircraft-grade aluminum with a Type III hard-anodized finish. In hand, it feels durable despite its size, and after weeks of testing—bouncing around on keys, getting dropped, and generally taking a beating—we haven’t noticed any scratches or real wear. It’s advertised to handle drops up to 1.5 meters, and our testing backs that up.

It also has an IPX8 rating, meaning it can withstand submersion for over 30 minutes. We don’t recommend tossing it into a lake for fun, but if you get caught in the rain or accidentally drop it in a puddle, you shouldn’t have any issues.

There are a ton of colorways available, from simple black (like the one we tested) to more playful designs and bright finishes. If you’re into customizing your everyday carry, there’s likely something that’ll fit your style. The branding is noticeable—it takes up a decent portion of the light’s body—but it blends in better on the more colorful versions.

To turn the light on, you twist the head. It’s a simple mechanism and easy to use, though we occasionally forgot which direction to turn it at first. After a few days, it became second nature. There are small indents along the body to help with grip, which work well, although it can get a little slippery when wet (not now, Bon Jovi).

This light maxes out at 90 lumens with a beam distance of up to 44 meters. That’s not incredibly powerful, and it’s not going to light up an entire room, but for quick tasks—like finding something in your bag, navigating a dark hallway, or unlocking a door—it gets the job done. It works well for reading at night without waking your partner, too, but you’ve got to hold the light the whole time. On one occasion, while doing just that, we dropped the light and couldn’t find it until morning.

It runs on a single AAA battery, which is easy to find pretty much anywhere in the world. With an alkaline battery, you’ll get up to 45 minutes of runtime, while a NiMH rechargeable battery can stretch that to around 70 minutes. We recommend rechargeable—it’s more cost-effective in the long term and better for the environment. You likely won’t need to bring a charger on shorter trips either; just swap in a fresh battery if needed and recharge when you get home.

Packability

This is where the OLIGHT i3E EOS shines—literally and figuratively.

It measures just 2.38 inches (60.5 mm) long and weighs under 20 grams with the battery installed. It’s small enough that you won’t notice it in your pocket, and it adds virtually no bulk to a keychain.

It comes with a small jump ring attached, so you can easily connect it to your keys, a carabiner, a wallet, or a zipper pull. It’ll fit into a tech pouch, too. That said, the tiny size comes with a tradeoff: it’s easy to lose if it’s not attached to something. We’ve had it slip into the bottom of a bag and disappear into couch cushions more than once, so keeping it secured is key.

Quick Comparison

We’ve been testing the NITECORE TIKI 300 for over two years, so it makes sense to compare the two.

The TIKI offers more versatility, with multiple brightness modes (1, 15, 60, and 300 lumens), auxiliary lights, and a much longer maximum runtime—up to 40 hours on its lowest setting. It also has an IP66 rating, which is solid for general use.

The OLIGHT i3E EOS, on the other hand, keeps things simple. There’s just one mode at 90 lumens—no cycling through settings, no extra features. It’s also more compact overall, thanks to its slimmer profile, though slightly taller at 2.38 inches compared to the TIKI’s 2.16 inches.

Build-wise, the OLIGHT uses metal, which feels more durable than the TIKI’s mostly plastic construction. In our testing, the i3E EOS handled drops and wear from keychain use exceptionally well.

Battery setup is another key difference. The TIKI has a built-in rechargeable battery with USB charging, while the OLIGHT uses a replaceable AAA battery. Depending on your travel style, one may be more convenient than the other.

Overall, both lights have their place. The OLIGHT i3E EOS is a straightforward, durable, ultra-compact option that works well for quick, everyday tasks. The TIKI offers more features and flexibility, but in a slightly bulkier, less rugged-feeling package.
