RUX Packing System Mesh Bundle Review

The RUX Packing System Mesh Bundle is a unique take on the traditional packing cube. It leans heavily into mesh for visibility and breathability, with a modular design that integrates with other RUX gear. It’s durable, lightweight, and covered in attachment points—but does that actually make it more useful for travel? Let’s dive in and find out.

External Components

This bundle includes three pieces: the Packing Pocket Mesh 2L, Packing Cube Mesh 10L, and Packing Bag Mesh 20L. All three are PFAS-free and built with a mix of nylon, UHMWPE, and PE, with slightly different material breakdowns depending on the size. Across the board, they feel lightweight yet durable, especially for gear that’s designed to be this breathable.

Starting with the Packing Pocket Mesh 2L, the front panel is mesh, so you can see exactly what’s inside. It’s breathable, which is handy for toiletries or small clothing items that might get damp. The sides and top are ripstop fabric that keeps weight down while adding durability, and the back panel is made from Hypalon, which feels rugged and adds structure. There are a lot of attachment points here, which we dig, along with two male-end clips on the top for connecting to other gear.

The closure is a rolltop design with a metal hook that attaches to a daisy chain. This lets you adjust how tight you roll it depending on how much gear you’ve got inside. It’s simple and effective, and we’ve had no issues using it.

Moving to the Packing Cube Mesh 10L, the design is similar but scaled up. Both the front and back panels are mesh, so airflow and visibility are excellent. The sides and top continue with that ripstop fabric, keeping things lightweight but durable. There’s a single male-end buckle on the back for attaching it to other RUX gear.

The rolltop closure here is more involved. There are straps on both sides that connect to daisy chains running along the bottom edges of the cube. This setup doubles as a compression system, helping cinch everything down and making the rolltop feel more secure. It takes a bit of getting used to and can feel slightly cumbersome at first, but once you’ve got the hang of it, it works well. The daisy chains also connect underneath to form a handle, which is a nice touch for grabbing it out of your bag.

The Packing Bag Mesh 20L follows the same general design as the 10L cube but with more capacity. It uses a similar mesh-and-ripstop construction, maintaining that balance of breathability and durability. Like the 10L, it has a rolltop closure with side straps and daisy chains for compression, along with a male buckle for attaching to other RUX gear.

One key difference is the addition of top handles, which makes it easier to carry like a tote when it’s not inside a larger bag. This is especially useful given its size—you’re more likely to use it on its own for laundry, beach gear, or gym clothing.

Overall, the set feels cohesive. The materials are tough, the mesh is functional, and the modular attachment system works well both within the RUX ecosystem and on its own.

Inside The Packing Cubes

Across all three pieces, the internal design is as simple as it gets—there’s no internal organization. Each one is essentially a single, open compartment.

That works well for what these are designed for. The mesh construction already gives you visibility, so you don’t need extra pockets to find your gear. Plus, the lack of dividers makes it easier to pack bulkier or irregularly shaped items.

The 2L pocket is best suited for smaller items—think socks, underwear, toiletries, or small tech accessories. It’s also a solid option for quick-access gear, especially if you’re clipping it onto another bag.

The 10L cube hits that sweet spot for general clothing. T-shirts, shorts, and lighter layers fit well here, and the compression system helps keep everything compact.

The 20L bag is where you can really start loading up. It’s great for larger clothing items, bulkier gear, and even shoes, towels, and camping equipment. The breathable mesh is especially useful for wet or dirty gear, as it allows airflow to help things dry out and prevents odors from building up as quickly as they would in a traditional packing cube.

One thing to keep in mind is that there’s no padding in any of these. While you can technically use them for more than clothing, you’ll want to be careful with fragile items.
